USPS Package Delivery Text Scams

How it works

A text or email says a package couldn't be delivered because of an incomplete address or a small fee, and gives a link to "reschedule". The site collects your personal and card information. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service says USPS won't text or email you unless you first requested tracking with a tracking number, and even then the message won't contain a link.

Red flags

Track packages only at usps.com or in the official app. You can also report USPS-related scam texts and emails to [email protected].

If you already paid

Act fast. The FTC's advice depends on how you paid:

Watch for "recovery" scams. Anyone who contacts you offering to get your money back for a fee is likely another scammer.
